(6/6/07) A new poll conducted for an organization with ties to
the Draft-Fred Thompson movement is said to have produced similar
numbers to last week’s Insider Advantage / Majority Opinion
Research survey which showed Thompson surging into second place
on the strength of the buzz about his expected entry into the race.
The Insider survey showed Rudy Giuliani in the lead with 28% and
Thompson second at 19%.
The poll conducted for the Thompson-linked group is said to have
Giuliani at 24% nationally and Thompson at 18%, again in second
place. Both surveys showed John McCain in third place.
The IA poll showed McCain at 16% and the Thompson internal poll
reportedly showed McCain at 17%.
The internal poll also is said to show that among moderate Republicans,
Thompson has gained 14% since a prior poll was conducted in April
of this year.
The internal survey reportedly also shows that among conservative
Republicans, Giuliani is at 22% with Thompson at 18%.
The two “internal surveys” were conducted by McLaughlin
and Associates on behalf of an entity which is independent of Thompson
but which has become the early information source for the Thompson
campaign.
